The popular resort of Novigrad is located about 20 km from the Slovenian border in the north of Istria. The old town was originally built on an island, which has been connected with the mainland in the 18th century. It preserves its medieval structure with parts of the city wall, the basilica and a town hall in Gothic style. In contrast to most of the other coastal towns fishery plays still an important role in Novigrad: numerous fishing boats dominate the harbour scene. In the near-by restaurants fresh fish is offered.
Novigrad is a nice place to end a day tour through the Istrian hinterland with Motuvun and Grožnjan.
