The only international airport in Istria is Pula Airport. During the summer months, it is served by many European airports (from Germany, Lufthansa, Easyjet, Eurowings, Ryanair, Croatia Airlines, among others). You can find an overview of the flight connections to Pula here: airport-pula.hr/en/flight-info/flight-destination-list/.
Numerous car rental companies offer their services directly in the terminal building. We recommend that you book your rental car from home. In the high season, the prices for rental cars are quite high, so that travelling by plane is only recommended for a short stay or in the low season.
If you pick up a rental car at the airport, leave the airport area in the direction of Pula (D66). Now there are two possibilities:
For the resorts of Fazana, Bale and Rovinj, stay on the D66 until the big roundabout in Pula. From there, follow the D21 in the direction of Buje/Rovinj until you reach Bale or Rovinj.
For other holiday destinations, we recommend that you take the A9 motorway and follow it to your holiday destination.
If you do not want to use a car at your holiday destination, you can also use airport transfers by bus or taxi. You can find more information on the airport website.
Alternatives to Pula airport are Rijeka airport or Trieste airport. Most destinations in Istria can be reached from these airports in about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Travelling to Istria by train is possible, but much less comfortable than by other means of transport. Only the railway station in Rijeka is connected to the European network. From there you can continue to your holiday destination by bus.
